And now the risk of this happening is just sitting there waiting for the conditions that trigger this problem to come aboutįor me, I recently changed ISPs (but still using the exact same modem and Google Wifi router hardware). ![]() I wouldn't be surprised if many Google WiFi users are having perfect performance and aren't experiencing this problem. People have been complaining about this since 2021 and I've had perfect speed up until now. ![]() The next question i asked myself is "why now?". the device running the speed test is connected through wire to the Google WiFi and all other devices are disconnected from the Google Wifi during the test. The point is that running a speed test on any networked device on the Google WiFi mesh system should result in full speeds, when tested in ideal conditions like I did i.e. Link to one prominent Google support post where many raise this issue: But that too would point to a prioritisation algorithm bug. Some found that enabling or disabling the video conference or game streaming preferences also helped them. This led me to believe that Google WiFi has an inherent bug in its prioritisation algorithm.ĭoing some googling and checking out Reddit, I see that many others have experienced this problem and some as far back as September 2021. I also found that if I prioritised the internet for any device A on my network, then when I did a speed test on any device B, the download speeds would improve coming closer to the 100mbps but the upload speeds would drop considerably. I found that if I prioritised the internet for any device X on my network, then when I did a speed test on that device X, it would get me full internet speeds. I played with all the settings in Google Wifi that I could. Now I've been using Google Wifi for years so I knew Google WiFi was capable of the full speeds, so I didn't give up there. The mikrotik immediately reported 100mbps consistently. I've blamed my ISP and I've blamed my fibre operator, but neither of them found anything wrong on their respective sides.Īfter trying so many settings, I eventually replaced the Google WiFi with a Mikrotik router to see if it was the Google WiFi router causing the problem. Over the last 2 weeks I've been struggling with my Google Wifi router only giving me 50mbps internet speed (on both a WiFi and Ethernet connection) when the modern is definitely spitting out 100mbps.
